5G is unlimited in India with all major network operators like Jio, Airtel and Vi. That means you have to pay a certain amount of money via unlimited 5g plans and you can use as much data as you can without thinking about the limits. If there is no limit then how these companies are making money? Let’s find out:-
- It is not truly unlimited: First of all 5G is not truly unlimited in India with operators like Airtel and Vi where they are based on Non-Standalone 5G (5G Based on existing 4G infrastructures) so they cannot provide unlimited data because of bandwidth restrictions so they silently put 300GB Fair usage policy and if you use more than that then it would be considered as commercial usage. Jio works on standalone 5G Network so their bandwidth is very good for providing more data because true 5g is capable of huge data transmission.
- No Direct monetization has been done on 5G in India because with unlimited plans companies can’t scale the prices on the basis of usage as it’s unlimited, So they are charging for extra services like Music, OTT, Ai Subscriptions. Telecom companies are regularly adding bundle services to their unlimited plans and making money with that.
- 5g is not working as a direct means of monetization but acting as a platform through which companies can make money, Be it Jio Cloud, OTT, Ai subscriptions everything requires faster Internet so 5g is only the base and companies will develop things on top of it to actually monetize and make money.
- The future is completely different, These companies will surely make money from us and recover all their investments in a long run game, Very soon they will hike prices and divide users in two categories, First category would be of premium 5g users and second category would be of unlimited 4g users who cannot afford bundle plans and expensive 5g plans. Companies are making 4g unlimited to tap out tier 2 and tier 3 cities and moving forward with premium 5g users with new plans very soon.
