Lost & Stolen Phone | Tracking Location, IMEI, Find Device

Losing a phone can be distressing for anyone, given that most of our lives are dependent on it. However, what can you do or how can you track your phone if you happen to lose it somewhere or if someone steals it?

Our device carries a lot of our private information and sensitive data. If it’s lost or stolen, that can cause disastrous or heartbreaking consequences.

This article will tell you how to track your phone easily if you ever lost it or get stolen, what precautions you should take if it’s lost and what precautions you should take before it gets lost.

There are some ways to find your phone location if it ends up out of your hands.

Find My device

Enabling Google’s Find My Device app is a must-have and if you haven’t done it yet, you should do it immediately. By enabling this app, you can get a ring on your lost device even after the device is on silent as long as your phone is on and connected to a mobile or Wi-Fi network. To get a ring, you can simply use Find My Device’s website in any browser, whether on your computer or any other smartphone. Then log into your Google account, and click on the ring option in the Google search box. By doing so your phone will ring, and you can find it if it’s somewhere near you and you didn’t notice previously.

You can also find the location of your lost phone by using this app if it’s turned on and connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data. To track your device, you can visit Find My Device’s website and log into your Google account, and type “find my phone” into the Google search box. If your lost device has access to the internet and location tracking is on, you’ll find out where it is.

You can even remotely erase the data of that phone or change the password by using this app.

IMEI Number

You should know the IMEI Number of your lost phone to file a complaint against that phone. If you don’t know the IMEI Number yet you should know and keep it written somewhere by dialing *#06# today itself. Each mobile phone, including feature phones and smartphones, has a unique identification number. This is commonly called an IMEI number and is used by the network providers to identify the phone on the network.

When you file a complaint, the network operator will add the device’s IMEI number as blacklisted to the central database, and other operators will also add that device as blacklisted so that it doesn’t work on any network even if the SIM card is removed or replaced.

However, you cannot track your phone or block it with an IMEI Number by yourself. It can be done by the police or the government only with lots of permission and signatures from higher authorities.

Precautions you should take before your phone gets lost

If you are scared of losing your phone or you want to keep your phone safe, you can put your alternative number on your lock screen. By doing so, if you lost your phone somewhere and someone else finds it and wants to return it, he will have your alternative number. Every smartphone has this feature to add text to your lock screen. You should use this feature to put your alternative number.

You can also invest in Bluetooth trackers. By using Bluetooth trackers, you can easily find your lost phone.

Precautions you should take if your phone is lost

First of all, if you cannot find your phone anywhere anyway, you should file a complaint against that lost phone. By doing so, you will be able to show your FIR report if somebody anyhow uses your phone in any illegal affair. Also, you will have a chance to get your phone back if the police find out the person who took your phone.

Also, if you want, you can go to your service operator and by showing the police FIR report you can ask them to block that SIM card number. They can also reallot the same number to you by charging some amount of money. This way even after losing your phone, at least you can get your phone number back.

I hope this article will help you a little to keep your phone safe from losing and getting it back if lost.
