Why Front Camera is Not as Good as Back Camera? | Story of Front Camera

In this post we will discuss why front camera is not as good as back camera of any android phone. In my case, the front camera of my first ever android phone is 0.3 megapixel. Why is it so?

Now i’ll be talking about the world’s First camera phone in 1999, the Kyocera VP-210 Visual Phone. In that era, having a camera phone is something very new and special. The phone had an 0.11MP camera and could take up to 20 pictures before its onboard storage was full. It was capable of a picture transmission which means video conferencing in 2seconds. Video conferencing via phone was a wonderful technology in that time. It wasn’t even that smooth and it was lower than a video format. You could hardly recognize a person in that video conference. The first purpose of the front camera wasn’t to take a selfie but to do a video conference in a low resolution. In that time, data speed wasn’t that fast so the video quality was also not good. Thus, from the beginning, the resolution of front camera is low.

The modern selfie trend was triggered by the arrival of the front-facing camera in the iPhone 4 launched in 2010, and has been fueled by the popularity of mobile photo services. Then when this trend became more popular, the smartphones introduce front camera of 5mp,8mp or more taking in consideration of selfie mode.

Now front cameras has changed so drastically over the past couple of years which has become the primary USP for consumers when buying a smartphone.
