Xiaomi killed Micromax? Why Micromax Company Failed Badly

In this post, I will make you remember good old days when android smartphones were not so popular and were expensive to buy. We all had Nokia phones with amazing 5-megapixel cameras and big buttons just below the screen and then cam a company that introduced cheap and affordable android phones to all. Yes, I am talking about Micromax an Indian smartphone brand with entry-level Android smartphones.

You don’t see Micromax smartphones in the market these days. Why? I will tell you what happened to this smartphone company and how it failed to survive in the Indian smartphone market.

Almost 80% of Indian smartphone company founders were distributors of International smartphone companies in India and Micromax was a distributor of Nokia. Their job was to sell and do marketing for Nokia Payphones and Coinbox phones. Nokia sold its payphone business and Micromax tried its luck in the smartphone market by importing Outdated Chinese smartphones and sell them with their names. This turned out to be very successful and people loved the fact that you can afford an android smartphone for just 3000 Indian rupees.

India is a market of budget and cheap smartphones and at that time people were so much interested to get their hands on these newly launched android smartphones no matter how much they hang and how much resources they have. The only thing that mattered to them was a g screen and android os and good numbers of games and applications. I personally had a smartphone Micromax Bolt A35, in fact, this was my first android smartphone. I was poor huh!
This phone was so bad that you can’t even imagine a decent sized application to run smoothly even Facebook messenger and Whatsapp was running like a snail in this device.

Okay coming back to the point, Micromax did well and Chinese companies were watching this happen in India then they decided to make new phones and sell them here in India because outdated phones were doing great so new phones will surely rock the market. Xiaomi entered the market with 2 to 3 smartphones and did very well. Then 4g era comes and all these Micromax phones became so outdated that people are running away from them. No one wants a 3g handset if they have the option to choose a 4g device in the same price segment and they will also get updated operating system, a good camera and bigger battery. Demonetization and lack of proper after-sale service buried this brand deep into the memories of customers. India is a country of selfie lovers and you will be surprised to know that in 2014 60% selfie-related deaths have happened in India. These Chinese companies took advantage of this and launched high-quality camera phones for selfies and people went crazy to buy these smartphones.
